Merlin’s Pass Sexual Harassment Contact System
A Merlin’s Pass is a plain green laminate worn in a visible position at live music events. It enables workers to easily identify a person they can approach to discuss concerns about sexual harassment.
The laminate is typically A6 or A7 in size and can be adapted to event or tour accreditation. It should be larger or more visible than other passes so it can be easily recognised.
A Merlin’s Pass indicates that the holder is a safe and informed point of contact. They should be:
Comfortable receiving disclosures
Familiar with the relevant Sexual Harassment Policy
Aware of reporting and complaints processes
Able to direct people to appropriate support options
A clear and current Sexual Harassment Policy must be in place for the Merlin’s Pass Holder to follow.
Role of a Merlin’s Pass Wearer
A Merlin’s Pass Holder is a worker who is competent and ready to talk to about sexual harassment and who is familiar with the resources and options available to deal with disclosures of sexual harassment. This should be a person who responds to such disclosures in a calm way, providing options and support to the survivor/victim based on the applicable Sexual Harassment Policy of the relevant PCBU.
Merlin’s Pass Holders should have a clear understanding of what sexual harassment is and be comfortable and competent in managing such situations.

Important information
The Merlin’s Pass is not a certification system. It has been developed in response to industry feedback as a practical way to identify appropriate points of contact at events. The use of a green laminate is intended to provide consistency across different settings.
Responsibility remains with the PCBU(s) running each event to:
Decide whether to use a Merlin’s Pass (or alternative system)
Ensure appropriate training for those in the role
Maintain and apply a Sexual Harassment Policy
Respond to any concerns raised
Merlin’s Pass Holders are not approved or endorsed by SoundCheck Aotearoa.
