ABOUT our PROFESSIONAL RESPECT TRAINING program

As part of our commitment to addressing sexual harm in the Aotearoa music community, we are offering a series of Professional Respect Training (PRT) Workshops, facilitated by Independent Sexual Harm Prevention Specialist, Rachel Harrison, with Sexual Harm Prevention and Response Advisor (SHAPRA), Mel Calvesbert.

This full day workshop is free of charge for members of our music community, and the training material caters to a wide range of people and roles across our community. The day is friendly and interactive, and we strive to create a safe, constructive, and supportive environment for everyone in attendance.

The PRT workshop was developed by Rachel Harrison with SoundCheck Aotearoa, and is based on a similar training model rolled out across the Aotearoa screen sector. See ScreenSafe to see about what the screen sector is doing in this space.

From this workshop, you will come away with an understanding of the below topics as delivered by our Sexual Harm Prevention and Response specialists:

  • Definitions of sexual harassment and sexual harm within New Zealand legislation

  • WorkSafe obligations and legal requirements for workplaces

  • Guidance for receiving disclosures of sexual harm and supporting survivors

  • Options and pathways for reporting sexual harm and support services available

  • Strategies for preventing sexual harm and fostering a respectful work environment

  • Practical tips for bystander intervention

While the training caters to a wide range of people and roles, they do not focus specifically on audience management or dealing with members of the public. If you manage or work in a music venue and are looking for training on these topics, please get in touch and we can advise on the options available.

If you have any concerns or questions about how to attend or contribute in a safe way, please contact Rachel Harrison directly by email here, or you are welcome to contact the SHAPRA at shapra@soundcheckaotearoa.co.nz or 021 222 9169.
