Resources for Artists and Artist Managers

Artists and Artist Managers who control or influence a business have responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act to manage the risks of sexual harassment within their work.

There are multiple ways to support safe and respectful working relationships. You can:

  • Implement a Sexual Harassment Policy to meet legal requirements

  • Use a Code of Conduct to set clear expectations for behaviour

  • Include health and safety briefings or visual resources to promote safe and respectful environments

  • Undertake training to build confidence in preventing and responding to sexual harassment

These actions can be applied whether you work independently or within an organisation.

Setting Expectations

Consider the environment you want to create and the standards you expect in your working relationships.

You can reinforce these expectations by:

  • Communicating your commitment to safety and respect

  • Encouraging open conversations about behaviour and accountability

  • Sharing your Code of Conduct at the start of new collaborations

  • Including clear statements about expectations in communications (e.g. email signatures)

Even small actions can help establish norms and support a culture of respect.

Working with under-18s

If your work involves people under 18, you must also have a Child Protection Policy in place to ensure their safety.
